Its time to fight Tories. Julia is doing it in QT today.

Abbott stuck in predictable.

619 Responses to “Gillard won – Rudd lost.”

  1. Can the PM demand a full official apology from Abbott?

Nope he just asked for her to explain – nothing wrong with that. But she can make him look very silly.

  2. Has Uhlmann found a studio yet or is he still locked in the P House courtyard?

  3. Shanahan and Coorey were just following orders this mornng -  – give the opposition something to rant about in QT today. Who cares if it’s true or not, it serves the purpose

Expect more making up stuff and lies. The msm have been deprived of their daily Ruddstoration fix, at least for the time being. They have to find something else to run with to justify their inflated salaries. Telling lies about Labor and the PM is easy. Once said they are out there and can’t be retracted. Gillard needs to demand a published apology every time these creeps come out with crap. If Nicole Kidman can do it so can the PM.

Fairfax’s Phillip Coorey is still running with the ‘Julia rang Bob Carr’ story here

    http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/political-news/gillard-personally-pushed-carr-for-senate-bid-20120229-1u1rq.html.

Note the time – 5.58 pm – hours after Carr issued his statement denying everything Coorey is saying.  It doesn’t seem to matter if the protagonists tell the truth, the journos still insist that their lies are the correct version. Coorey needs to get some reliable sources, he’s had a bugger of a week so far but still won’t admit to his mistakes.

  4. it rather makes me anoyed  how people come ango  from here    ithink you are going to have to build  your  own  own bloggers   ‘

not sure how u do that   because  ifu advertise    on  twitter    goodness knows  who wouldend up here ,  well i am sure  u all know  better than i, ,    hope new people come  that  just want discusdion policy  gret  tweets . and other    things  dx:

  5. My excuse for not being here (or indeed on any other blogging sites) much anymore is that I’m now back at university, and that combined with work means I’ll have very little time to watch the QT beatdowns or pay close attention to politics as much.

So, sorry about that, but it was fun while it lasted.

  6. VK

All the best for uni this year. My daughter started again this week too. No wonder i feel old!!

  7. Could we be close to the end-game for Murdoch’s newspaper empire?….

  9. I would expel Kev just for this reason:

Yep, and for giving Nelson and Costello jobs …

  10. markjs

The demise of Murdoch cannot come quick enough.

  11. DG

I just posted a response to you at the other place. Oops!

    Anyhow brilliant!

  12. The other place is describing Mesma as Sadie”.

    Hit it John(n)y :-)

  13. Nice one frank

  14. From the aap article:

[Mr Carr has stated that NSW Labor officials had originally raised the prospect of having him drafted into the Senate to become a cabinet minister. But he stressed that neither Ms Gillard nor an agent of the prime minister had made any offer to him about filling the foreign affairs vacancy.]

Smith says he was against ‘the idea’ that Carr be drafted, but doesn’t deny the PM’s or Carr’s account that, in fact, no offer was made.

So he didn’t like the idea. Big deal. For what it is worth, I think it’s pretty silly one too, but exactly how this makes a news story, or leaves “Gillard’s leadership shaken” as AAP aserts is beyond me.

You’re right Frank: A classic beat-up over nothing.

  15. I see form the other place that Toolman appeares to be in his cups tonight and sending some rather unusual tweets, it seems. One even accusing Prof Peter Singer (the animal rights dude) of being rather too close to animals.

If these tweets weren’t hoaxes and were in fact sent by the Toolman, his career at the ABC might be in for a very bumpy ride indeed.

It must be silly season for journos, what with George Negus geting his tit in the wringer over some rather unfortunate comments about the latest Australian VC winner. (Something about him diving into a swimming pool to find his brain and also laughing at his co-host bimbo suggesting the lad might be a dud root – I’m sure that’ll go down well at the RSL).

Expect lots of grovelling from all concerned over the next few days.

  16. Meanwhile in WA – Remember the Govt Media Advisor who was sacked for playing silly buggers with Mark McGowan ?

  17. A  VERY Drunk Toolman:

    Tweets

No Latika. I am power deprived and bored. Looking out from the 8th floor over a misty Riley St

Can you describe Kitchen Cabinet in 140 characters or less Lyndal, for the power deprived. Good news have found cigar and lighter in dark

You shoild be in bed Ross Solly. And my aren’t there some sad, lemon sucking souls on Twitter. Lighten up people.

Speaking of horses. I see Rupert Murdoch has lept to Rebecca Brooks defence. Saved a nag from the knackers. Greg Hoy salutes you, hacker.

Thanks for all expressions of concern about power crisis. Perhaps have consumed more red wine than advisable. Can’t see how much.

And I see Peter Singer is on Lateline tonight. He much approves of people who love animals (in all ways). Bugger, all these shows No power

The Hoy piece should be on our website soon. A must see for racehorse fanciers and people who love animals in the wrong kind of way.

Alas because power is out I am haunted Greg Hoy’s spectacular piece to camera on 730 tonight. In the background a stallion was at work.

Soon battery on Ipad will run out and I will lose contact with the world. Happily I long ago learned to open wine bottles in the dark

Would watch Annabel Crabb in Kitchen Cabinet. But power is off because ABC did not pay the bill on this Sydney retreat. But I am not bitter

Its the 80th birthday of the best radio in the world: BBC World Service http://bbc.in/14Ta4 Good company on wet night in Sydney flat

  18. Here’s the George Negus business, as reported in today’s SMH.

    http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/i-feel-sick-circle-host-shocked-at-backlash-over-soldiers-dud-root-slur-20120229-1u1mr.html

He and some bimbo named Yummy or somesuch making damn fools of themselves on TV.

I think we have a definite entry for the 2012 Kyle Sandilands Make-A-Complete-Arse-Of-Yourself award.

  19. The Australian online first sentence of Franklin/Shanahan’s piece:

“FORMER NSW premier Bob Carr has directly contradicted Julia Gillard’s denial that he was offered the post of foreign minister in her government this week.”

Yet, in body of article is this statement from Carr:

“Prime Minister Gillard had definitely not made any offer about the foreign affairs ministry nor had any one on her behalf,” he said (my emphasis)

So, it seems to me that Franklin/Shanahan are spinning this non-story to try and keep the meme going that JG is prone to making gaffs…when in fact there is only evidence that she is quite appropriately discussing these issues with colleagues.

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/bob-carr-at-odds-with-julia-gillard-on-ministry-bid/story-fn59niix-1226285632288?sv=56766f257579c7f048da3f09ca6822ca

  20. markjs

The PM did not seem to concerned about the whole thing yesterday in QT. She was having quite a few chuckles throughout. Not sure what the facts are, but what does it matter?

  21. Victoria,

What happened (I think) is that Labor Party Officials were busy canvassing candidates they thought might be best suited to the vacant senate seat.  Dastyari (sp?) apparently approached Bob Carr who declined and Dastyari then put forward the idea that maybe the FM portfolio could be attached to it – Carr declined.  Dastyari, of course, had no authority to offer a portfolio – Carr would have known that and maybe that is why he and the PM had a couple of phone conversations.

  22. I see Julie Bishop is out on the air waves this morning asking to be used as a floor mop.

  23. janice

Makes sense to me. Shamas et al are busy spinning this story into a fiasco. Wish they would all go to hell

  24. victoria,

Shanas et al are trying to spin their way out of looking stupid.  The PM and her team are looking like cats that swallowed the cream so maybe they’re hitting back with a bit of mis-leaking?

  25. victoria/janice

…what concerns me about this is not JG’s perfectly normal discussion/canvassing of possible senate/FM candidates…but rather the determination of certain journos including Snanahan/Franklin and Grattan to report it as some sort of crisis….and to encourage the meme that JG un-trustworthy and even a liar.

…the reality is that sections of our media are not just un-trustworthy but are out and out purveyors of lies and misinformation in an ongoing campaign to smear the personal reputation of our PM. The long-term objective is to effect regime change…and that is unacceptable in our democracy…

  26. Markjs,

Which is the reason why I think that maybe the PM and her team are putting out mis-leaks which Shanas and company will blow up into crises that are not there.  If it happens often enough they will lose any of the faux credibility they have enjoyed to date.

  27. Frank, George, Rua,

How do I change the font size in the comment box?  It is so tiny I can hardly read what I’m typing.

  28. ForeverJanice

Have you tried going to the ‘Font size’ on the menu in the comment box and clicking on the arrow, this will give you different options?

  29. MsAdventure,

Thanks, but yes I’ve tried that but as soon as begin typing a post the font size reverts to pin point!

  30. The font family is worth trying Arial tends to be smaller than some others

  31. MsAdventure,

I’ve tried changing to Courier New and the font size but it reverts back after I’ve typed the first word.  Don’t know why it should do that unless I’m doing something wrong.

  32. Mr Mordor resigns – still wondering why he is not in goal!

  33. media scum interviewing Bob Brown are just bullshiteing on @abcnews24 at 11:55AM (AEDT) – FFS they just pushing their own agenda and getting it on TV – FFS had enough mr scott

  34. Bill Shorten will be holding presser shortly with TWU rep. Not sure exactly what about

  35. Posted on the other place, but absolutley brilliant.

The ‘Three litle pigs” advertisment for the British newspaper, The Guardian, a prime player in the investigation of NOTW phone hacking and corruption that eventually led to Murdoch’s present predicament.

This is a work of genius.

  36. Casual senate vacancies are filled by the relevant State parliament.  They are not ‘appointed’ by the PM, which a lot of people seem to think:  http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/parlment/publications.nsf/key/Factsheet06-CasualvacanciesintheSenate/$File/Fact+sheet+06+Casual+vacancies+in+the+Senate.pdf

  37. I see Julie Bishop is learning to wipe floors, she has a lot to learn.

  38. Wiping floors is all she is fit for.

  39. GOLD from Albo:

The Member for McKellar will remove herself ….. under 94A

Albo, wtte “A very popular decision on both sides of the House, Mr Speaker”

When told to return to the subject he said wtte

“Yes, Mr Speaker, as the future of the Liberal Party leaves the House ….”

    Pure gold!

  40. muttleymcgee

Yes it was oure gold from Albo.

  41. Ruawake

Here is one for you re Hyatt soon to known as ‘Palmer Woods resort’, pinned to the notice board in the housekeeping department.

  42. MsAd

The Hyatt Regency Coolum Golf Resort on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast has been placed into voluntary administration.

Administrator KordaMetha says the resort will continue to operate as normal and the jobs of its 650 employees are not at risk.

Ginette Muller, from KordaMentha, said the administrator was in talks with resort manager Hyatt Australia on the future of the complex.

“Our plan is to ensure it is business as usual at the resort,” Ms Muller said.

Clive is having a shocker.

  47. On Bob Ellis blog FWIW:

The Usual Murdoch Dirty Tricks (12): The Abbott Cover-Up

“I am told by my Perth informant that Tony Abbott is no longer wearing his wedding ring during Question Time. Since I am on a train at present passing through Dimboola and Nhill and unable to check, I ask those interested in such things to turn on SkyNews and report back to me.

If it is true the reason is well known to the entire Press Gallery who have been inclined to suppress it and emphasise instead Kevin Rudd’s delusions of grandeur; but they know what they know.

It would be good I guess if they pursued the usual Murdoch process of a politician’s ruination. Or perhaps not good.

But Rupert has clearly forbidden it, and so it goes.” (posted today)

    http://www.ellistabletalk.com/2012/03/01/the-udiual-murdoch-dirty-tricks-12-the-abbott-cover-up/

  48. I didn’t get to see Albo’s twin barrels on BBishop, more is the pity (I could not possibly watch JBishop go through her “motions” – use whichever definition of which might spring to mind). Overall, though, QT seemed quite listless to me, like the last day of school term once again. Abbott has only 10 sitting days to survive before the budget…will he make it??

On Coolum, I dont know, but I wonder if the administration might be a way to void the management contract. If so, I rather suspect that a court of equity would give that short shrift (btw the impact of the internet and mobile communications technology on business transparency is just astonishing – a  notice on the staff notice board posted here!! Amazing)
