Professor White said: ”The government could be put in the embarrassing situation of having a desalination plant in operation under its contractual obligations and at the same time having Warragamba spilling over.”
That story is from a few weeks ago. Warragamba starting spilling over today.
The people of NSW are lumbered with a ridiculous contract for the desalination plant by some bizarre illogic of off balance sheet liabilities (ie contract to pay money to private owners of infrastructure) is somehow considered different (indeed, better!) than on balance sheet government debt, at lower cost, for exactly the same asset. Crazy. More crazy to the extent that it is driven by discredited ratings agencies.
Crikey is giving me the bloody shits. you cannot get around its stupid mobile site without it then pushing you out of the blogs, only when you then push to get back it revets to the stupid mobile site again. A circular trap to send you around the bend!
I wish they’d spend more money on their web interface and servers than paying Bernad Keane money to spew crap we can get for free from News Ltd and ABC!
Smith was pushed out because Mr Ego wanted his spot. He was pretty angry about it at the time. If he wants the job back then he should have it. Smith did a good job before, some say much better than The Ego, he just didn’t spend his time telling us all how great he was and where he was going next and who he had talked to yesterday. He just got on with it.
I am sure ACCI and the HIA are thrilled that the media are examining toenail clippings re Bob Carr instead of helping them persuade the Senate to drop amendments to the ABCC legislation.
No the reps introduced amendments and they passed. The ACCI and HIA are going ballistic, the Libs tried to get the amendments sent to committee but failed. Another case of Abbott failing to look after business. They are not happy he has ignored the issue.
I know the bill passed the HOR at last sitting at same time as private health bill. Wilkie and Bandt voted for, and W & O against. I was under impression Greens in senate were attempting amendments re coercive powers which has ben retained in the bill. Of course the Libs voted against abolishing the current ABCC.
A bit of fun: check out “Fight the Tories” poster – have a larger version available if anyone needs it for printing. This one is modelled off the Star Wars: A New Hope poster from the 70′s. Enjoy!

I thought it was seven sitting days until the budget on the 8th May.

Stephen Smith will be confirmed as Foreign Minister by JG tomorrow…
Don’t ask me how I know….If I tell you…I’ll have to kill you!!
Makes sense to me. I always thought it was up to him to chose between FA and Defence.

I can confirm that I was not approached for the role of FM…
it is a pity Smith ever left Foreign Affairs.
i understand DFAT were less than enamoured with his replacement in 2010 :-)

They have become a joke.

Do the senate seek amendments re coercive powers?
