Final Call: PM Gillard 77 Rudd 25

No bull, no guessing – we are the Dolphins – The Finnigans (The beautiful photos were done by @GeorgeBludger) - Michelle Rowland will not vote tomorrow, so the total will be: 102, not 103.

Our final count of the publicly declared support: PM Gillard 61 Rudd 19 with 22 Known Unknown. The question is how will the Unknowns break. Sportsbet is reporting the odds of PM Gillard $1.11 Rudd $6.25. Based on that we took the conservative approach and say the Unknowns will be break 70:30 to PM Gillard’s favour. This will give PM Gillard additional 16 votes to 77 and Rudd 6 votes to 25. That is our final call: 77 to 25

Really tired of the ‘Rudd is trying to transform the party’ meme.

    Some facts, people.

Rudd was in the best position of any Labor leader almost ever to transform the party. He had led the party to an unprecedented win (everyone said winning 16 seats couldn’t be done. He exceeded this). He was sky high in the polls for well over a year. (Part of the reason caucus gritted its collective teeth and kept working with him).

And alll he did was make a change to centralise power in himself, by giving the PM the right to appoint Cabinet – a decision he’s now backing away from, because the reason a couple of the current front bench are in his camp is that Gillard used those powers to demote them.

Whitlam, as Opposition Leader, took the true ‘faceless men’ head on. He disbanded an entire branch of the party and put in place structures which are still there today (and yes, probably are well due for reform).

He did this knowing he would lose at least one election because of it.

He did this whilst his hold on the Leader’s position was nowhere near as strong as Rudd’s was.

Kevin is not a reformer. His every statement confirms it. He is not after more democracy in the party, but less, as his myriad of promises (none of which involve consultation with caucus, the party, or the people) demonstrate.

Take off the rose coloured glasses, people. There ARE reasons to support Rudd (if you have a stronger stomach than I have) but the idea that he will make major reforms in the party isn’t one of them.

  2. Difficult to believe this tweet from Latika:

“Labor Senator Mark Bishop says he’s supporting Kevin Rudd because he saw him mobbed, liked & loved when he was in his electorate last year.”

    & This:

“Mark Bishop says he’s never seen anything like it – and contrasts it with the public unhappiness with the Gillard Government. #respill”

    UNBE-F**KING-LIEVABLE!!!!!

  3. Gawd, I am sick of that group of trolls going under the screen-name “greentard” (imo) on PB. They are totally farqing that blog, stifling all conversation and intelligent discussion. When is bilbo going to do something about it , he was quick enough to tell others to stop being stouupid yet he lets that shyte go on. I am NOT happy bilbo and for me to come here to say it, should tell you just how upset I am with what you have done to PB. I want it back where it was in December last year, before the shutdown.

  4. Puffy,

Welcome to the PB refugee site.  Bilbo has driven off the sane and replaced them with the insane.  I wonder if he thinks he has achieved what he aimed for?

Hawker has jumped the shark. PMs must now resign based on news polls #auspol #respill #kevenge

Hawker is showing the same level of unhingement as Rudd – both will solidify their historical irrelevance

  7. Hawkwr tqlking outside of Rudd HQ on RuddBC24.

And as predicted no pro Gillard tweets or facebook posts being read.

  8. Albo presser at 11:45 – I’ll really be saddened if he backs Rudd

If you missed @brucehawker2010‘s surprise news conference outside @KRuddMP‘s Brisbane home, it will be replayed next hour on #ABCNews24

  12. Bruce Hawker is paid by Rudd, therefore whatever he says will be what Rudd told him to say.

Imagine if krudd used some if his almighty influence to support @AustralianLabor instead of destabilising it #ISupportGillard

Hawker dfenies being paid by rudd – Yeah, Right.

  15. Bruce Hawker denies being by rudd.  Funny ha ha.  He was being paid by the Q’ld labor govt to run their campaign yet he bowed out of that to ‘look after Rudd” who, no doubt is paying up bigger.  He’s as bigger liar as Rudd.

  16. Ahh Crabby:

    Annabel Crabb@annabelcrabb

Julia Gillard has just stepped up to address ALP conference in Cessnock. Looking suspiciously fresh. #isshegettingtransfusionsorsomething

  17. All I can say is that Kevin Rudd deserves the Danny Frawley treatment, some one needs to dump a truckload of chicken pooputside of his electoral offices doorstep (or was it Terry Wallet that that happened too)

You know it makes sense :)

  18. puff it want ch angee somthing happened… i think they want more up market university talk  not us,  ’some years ago

whwn  i looked at the site it was very up market  no ordinary types,  ,   to be truthfull they where talking all of them tne ame language  that  bowe talks ,”u kno like a legal doco–

but in recent years its been  different,  may be  they want more people  like mr bowe   u know  very very educated,:::

no humour  no music,    well we will see  . there are more ordinary  folk like  us  that , say what they really think,

i am not  criss crossing  ’ not one more blogg from me

  19. There is no way  Hawker isn”t being paid by Rudd but my questions are is the payment from taxpayers and also when Rudd loses what will Hawker do for a crust after burning his bridges with the majority of the Federal Labor Party I know go and join the hackers brigade Credlin and Loughnane.

  20. the bloggers i feel sorry for  are  the  bks  of this  world    , new s  gatheres

  21. my say,

I understand it is enough to keep up with one blog, let alone two. I am following both at the moment but at this moment I have the time. Later I may not. Bilbo has really shot himself in the foot. He just let that troll go on for days. Once upon a time Frank would have “shot him (them IMO) out of the water” quick smart. I do not mind conservative posters, Mod Lib etc, they argue a point and defend their position with reasoned argument most of the time or join in the general risposte without malice. But it is obvious (imo) GT is there for only one reason, to stifle a progressive blog.that is getting a little too effective for the comfort of the tea-party nutters turning up in conservative politics in Australia.

  22. of course  if there was  not one phone ringing  u would  expect   the media  to say that,,, tj:::::::::::/::::::::::my smiles  on my key board  dont work  here  i am wondrring withother promlems  very  slow  there is a problem with android

  23. Just watched our lovely PM address the NSW Labor Conference – an amazing address.  btw has anyone else noticed that she has lost a stack of weight?

  24. My say,

regarding the smilies, if you look in the top right hand corner of this page you will see “smilies list”  - click on it and choose which one you want to use.

  25. puff  u have  to ask  why     ?….

let  themm eat  cake  we willdrink champagne,     and when  allthe regulars  are gone  what  then,

i never have found   dicscussion  poi ts  with  any of  howards/ abbott   lot   hate arguments  then  came kevs  lot  t  it was  like  the place was invaded, ,   i wonder if kevs lot willreturn   their  provocative  gravartas also

    they can keep there blogg

  26. thanks  janice   that is another problem  the  guys  will have totry and  fix  they  are so small even expanding  screen on    tablet  doesnt show  them

but  not complaining    no just thought it was interesting

  27. yes    just where i would  like to   ‘  smile

love  her dont  you    so so gracious

  28. I’m gutted

  29. Albo is diminished in my estimation I thought he was more loyal to the PM.

  30. So he had a hand in the destablisation right from the start, he said he argued in 2010 for Kevin Rudd to not contest the ballot  just resign.

  31. Oh dear, I feel for Albo but I don’t agree with his thinking which is conflicted.

  32. In a nutshell, Albo is trying to right what he believes is a wrong when they chucked out Rudd.  At least we can be assured that when Rudd loses, Albo will fight on for Labor.

  33. Oh dear, I feel for Albo but I don’t agree with his thinking which is conflicted.

It makes no sense to me. How can any of those publicly supporting Rudd, who will ultimately lose on Monday, show their face in parliament QT and not be laughed at by the opposition any time they get up to speak. Maybe I’m not smart enough to see the logic, but I just don’t get it.

  34. Frank, could you put those smilies up in a post for My say?

  35. Aubty Jack is Gloating – well he WIOLL be in for a surprise on Monday :-)

Has anyone mentioned Mike Carlton’s column in the SMH today?  Haven’t seen a reference. The party’s over. Rest in despair An amusing (if it wasn’t so sad) little ditty to start it off:

We’re angry little Vegemites as vicious as can be, We’ve ripped into each other since we joined the ALP. The polling spells disaster, getting worse with every week But we enjoy a faction fight, A savage brawl of left and right It puts a rose in every cheek!

Carlton makes a point that has always played on my mind since June 2010.

History has a way of repeating itself, especially for those who don’t learn its lessons. An ironclad rule of Australian politics is that disunity is death. If Rudd was behaving in The Lodge like a Borgia pope, as everyone now tells us, why on earth didn’t a taskforce of senior ministers tell him to pull his head in from the start?

2 of the 3 ALP politicians I most respect are now supporting Kevin Rudd, John Faulkner and Anthony Albanese.  The other is Greg Combet.

I have made no secret of my preference for Kevin Rudd and my contempt and loathing, not for Julia Gillard, but by those geniuses Arbib, Bitar, Howes, Shorten and Feeney who masterminded the highly damaging coup in 2010.

I will work and campaign for the ALP regardless of who leads us into the next election.  A simple proposition I have always adhered to.

I wonder what those spewing all the hate and vitriol on this site and even worse on Frank’s will do were Kevin Rudd to be the leader?

  36. George, it doesn’t make much sense to me either but in Albo’s case I’m pretty sure he can defend himself.

  37. Can someone explain to me why Albo has done that? It looks to me like the ALP have well and truly lost the plot. Is there an ulterior motive as to why Albo has done this. Is it to keep Rudd on side. WTF does it all mean?????

  38. Franly if the ALP change leaders they are doomed. Simon Crean is right in his fears. This could be the beginning of fhe end of the ALP

  39. Kevin Rudd@_KRuddMP

Just heard Julia talking about tantrums. I was too absorbed in myself so I missed it. It was about me wasn’t it? #auspol #respill _KRudd

  40. In the whole of Albo’s conflicting explanation for his decision, he appears to have forgotten one thing and that is his country.  His conflict has been between his catholic beliefs, his sense that chucking out Rudd was wrong, and his belief that Rudd could win another election.   He has obviously not given much thought at all to the fact that in voting to try and right a past wrong, he is putting the welfare of his country at risk and ultimately his party.

  41. Janice

I was nervous about Albo the other day. My fears have been realised. Has he done this to unite the party? Or does his decision further divide it. I fear for the ALP

  42. He has obviously not given much thought at all to the fact that in voting to try and right a past wrong, he is putting the welfare of his country at risk and ultimately his party.

    well put

Aunty Jack says Combet supports Rudd????

  44. george

Albo’s decision has given me less confidence about the future of the ALP. I am at the stage of giving up on them

    As if :-)

  46. Just sent this to Albanese. Didn’t mean the voting for Abbott bit. Just a bit pissed off.

[ You don't have the interests of the Australian worker in mind at all. You are a Rudd elitist. If Rudd gets in you have lost a 40 year voter. I will vote for Abbott to ensure that people like you are purged from the Labor Party. You are a disgrace to anyone who has actually raised a sweat, got dirty and came home tired from a days work. Don't ever try to tell anyone that you care for the Australian working man. You support Bruce Hawker....the faceless man behind Rudd. You are a hypocrite of the highest order. ]

  47. reckon Hawkers commen ts have killed Rudd’s chances BIG Time Albo’s vote means sweet FA frankly.
