Welcome to A Frank World – which is what the title suggests – A frank view on Politics and the media from a Centre Left perspective – ie the Current ALP Govt. This blog will treat posters fairly and will aim to give support to the current Government led by Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

So Join Us and Chat away.

Oh a message for any prospective trouble makers – Guess who is in charge of the sinbin this time :-)

  7. Ok, before I have a look “under the hood”, I should point out that blogs hosted on wordpress.com have some severe restrictions on what you can do with the sites (the reason I tell my clients to pay a few dollars a month extra to have their own server space).

Nevertheless, within those limits, I’ll see what can be done as far as design, etc goes. I’m working with some graphics progs at the mo to come up with a banner that reflects what the site is about, rather than the “bog standard” one that WP comes with (as above).

One of the main reasons for using customized WP blogs is the “plugins” that you can add to it that take it above and beyond just a blogging platform. Sadly, wordpress.com doesn’t allow plugins to be added which puts limits on what can be done. Then again, the servers at wp/com are far more reliable, so there’s a bit of “swings and roundabouts” involved.

Here’s a link to the site that I show my clients to illustrate what can be done with WP, and then tweek the colour scheme, design and layout to something that they’re happy with.

Getting an online radio station up and running isn’t that difficult or expensive, or so I’ve been led to believe. It is certainly infinitely easier and cheaper than investing in traditional (terrestrial) radio. The biggest barrier would be in sourcing original content. There aren’t many progressive radio commentators (or progressive media commentators, full-stop) in Australia.

  28. OK, first tweek made.

On the right (!) side of the title it used to say “Just another WordPress blog”. I’ve just changed it to better reflect what the site is about.

You can see the new message by refreshing the site in your browser (CTRL+F5).

Let me know what you think. It can be easily changed to something else if everbody wants it changed.

BTW Check your email – we have a small bushfire to put out :-(

  31. The MDBA is proposing releasing 2800 gigalitres to the environment when enviro groups say 4000 gigalitres is needed to save the flood-plains. Being from SA, I am with the enviro groups.

But this is a consultation phase, so it hopefully the final proposal will see the the flow increased. Tony Burke has a hell of a job with this one. I do not envy him.
